Kid Friendly 4c hair routine in UNDER 10 minutes with PRODUCT RECOMMENDATIONS

Hair care is an important part of our daily routines, especially when it comes to caring for 4c hair. The unique texture of 4c hair requires specific products and techniques to keep it healthy and looking its best. After years of trying what seems like every product on the market, I’m giving you the inside scoop on all the products we love.

Understanding 4c Hair

4c hair is known for its tightly coiled texture that can shrink up to 75% of its actual length. This hair type is prone to dryness and requires regular moisture and gentle care to thrive. When caring for 4c hair, it's essential to use products that provide hydration, nourishment, and protection.

Kid-Friendly Routine

Step 1: Cleansing

  • The Design Essentials Almond and Avocado Nourishing Co-Wash is gentle but NOT tear free. It cleanses product buildup without making the hair feel dry and has great slip for detangling while wet.

Step 2: Detangling

  • Product Recommendation : Aunt Jackie’s Quench Moisture Intensive Leave-In Conditioner

  • After washing I add a GENEROUS amount of leave in conditioner. My toddler doesn’t have the patience for deep conditioning and neither do I! This Aunt Jackie’s Quench! has a great smell, great slip, and is very moisturizing. I usually detangle and section it off and let him go to sleep at this point. I only have about 10 minutes before I’ve lost the cooperative spirit, and that’s on a good day!

Step 3: ADD Water

  • I’m late to the continuous spray water bottle trend but I am now a believer. If you haven't already invested in one of these, do it. It makes adding water to the hair so much easier. It drips less and the smaller molecules actually we the hair “easier” with less water. For defined curls the hair needs to be very wet…..almost dripping.

Step 4: Section, Add Curl Cream, and define coils with your fingers

  • Work in sections for best results. I focus primarily on the front, sides, and the very bottom near the neck. The middle gets the least attention when I’m in a hurry. Use your fingers to separate each curl and twist it around to define the spiral.

Step 5: Add a styling gel for hold and to lock in moisture

Thi gel not only smells amazing, it plays so nice with the rest of the products. No white cast, great hold, and my son comes home from school with his hair still noticibly moist. I found it at my local T.J. Maxx (a great place to grab products to test out) but it must be a limited edition because the links I found weren’t great. If you see it on a shelf…..GRAB IT!

If you can’t find the peach cobbler I also LOVE the flaxseed gel from Aunt Jackie’s. I rub a small amount in the palms of my hands and scrunch it around….and I’m DONE!
